This is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet  intended for use by retirees considering whether or not to do Roth conversions.

Macros must be enabled to allow certain features of this spreadsheet to work.

I created this spreadsheet for my own personal use, but you’re welcome to use it, too. It may continue to evolve.

Use this spreadsheet for the following:

  1. Model conversions up to 12% bracket, 22% bracket, 24% bracket, or the $250,000 net investment income tax threshold. Or don't do conversions but spend your tax-deferred accounts first (including paying taxes), instead of the conventional advice of spending taxable accounts first, then tax deferred accounts then Roth accounts.

  2. Determine an estimate of your spendable income depending on how much you convert to Roth.

  3. Estimate the impact of tax rates going up, assuming the Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) provisions for personal income taxes don't get extended.

  4. Play with the ages you and your spouse could die, and how your spendable income would compare with the Medicare income-related monthly adjusted amount (IRMAA) threshold before and after the first death

  5. Have an idea of what you may be leaving your heirs behind based on a given level of spendable income budget.

Note that the use of this workbook implies consent to the following:

  • This workbook is not intended as a substitute for professional judgment or advice.

  • This workbook is provided on an "as is" basis and makes no warranty, either express or implied. User is responsible for use, operation and results.

  • The calculations are only precise to a certain degree. For example, I disregard fractional years and fractional interest. For the intended purposes of this workbook, exactness is not warranted.

  • This workbook has limitations and won't be able to handle all scenarios.

Anyway... you're welcome to download this spreadsheet for free. Simply override the suggested price with $0

However, if you want to put a few dollars in the virtual tip jar of this LOL (i.e., little old lady!), well who am I to stop you? :)

Thank you,

Judy

P.S. This is in Microsoft Excel and I will NOT be making a Google sheets version of this.
